The article deals with the value of the comprehensive approach to learning of foreign language vocabulary. The author defines the concept of "cultural interference", when along with a concept a speaker transfers respective background information from the native language. It is the background knowledge in the semantics of a given word that has extra information that can be crucial for intercultural communication.
