The article deals with the various definitions of a press-release in Russian and English dictionaries, encyclopedias and reference books. Analyzing the definitions, the author reveals the development of a press-release as a mass-media document. The author comes to the conclusion that an unambiguous definition of a press-release will forward its standardization in the language.
