To the question of the definition of vocabulary and stylistics

The article analyzes the definitions of the terms «vocabulary» and «stylistics» proposed by well-known linguists, compilers of explanatory linguistic dictionaries, reference books. Most of the studied sources define vocabulary as a set of words of a language, its vocabulary, and stylistics as a branch of linguistics that provides an expressive representation of vocabulary, as a functional style of speech, as a style of language. However, vocabulary is one of the linguistic universals that cannot be considered without stylistics, but this is not reflected in the existing definitions. Of particular interest is the analysis of the classification of the vocabulary (areas of usage, origin, under section stylistic, literary direction) and stylistics (functional, practical, resources, etc.). In the author’s opinion, vocabulary and style are in modern conditions the linguistic universals that the coronavirus pandemic has enriched medical and educational spheres, as well as in the process of communication in social networks.
