Kaija Saariaho: on the question of individual composing manner

The article reveals the question of the formation of the individual compositional manner of Kaia Saariaho, an outstanding female composer in the world of academic music of recent decades. On the basis of observation and identification of the characteristic features inherent in the composer's creative method, the author of the article determines the stylistic affiliation of Saariaho's compositions to the postspectral direction in musical composition. The work touches upon a brief analysis of some of the works created by the composer in the 80s and 90s – the period of rapid formation of the individual manner of Saariaho. The relevance and scientific novelty of the research are characterized by the fact that the author addresses a little-studied issue by Russian musicologists in the field of modern musical composition.
