Career Orientations of Medical Students: A Theoretical Analysis of the Problem

The relevance of the problem of studying the career orientations of medical university students in the context of modernizing higher education and reforming the healthcare system is substantiated. The purpose of the article is to present the results of an analysis of foreign and domestic experience in the field of career orientations of medical university students. The subject-activity approach served as the methodological basis of the research. Individual aspects of a person’s career attitudes and value orientations are described, and the concept of “professional identity” is considered. The trends in the value preferences of medical university students that infl uence their choice of career path have been identified. It is concluded that when choosing a career, students of this profile rely on their capabilities, individual characteristics, as well as value orientations. Based on these phenomena, the professional worldview of the future healthcare specialist is being designed.
