Freedom and restrictions categories in US codes of journalism ethics

During the era of polarization in America, discussions about the role of the media in society, the objectivity, the freedom and the limitations of journalistic activity are intensifying. The position of the US journalistic community on these issues is reflected in codes of journalistic ethics. These documents point to the main priorities and values developed by journalistic collectives and organizations. The study shows the analysis of the categories of “freedom” and “restrictions” which presented in the codes of journalistic ethics of the United States. The analysis shows how often the terms associated with a particular category are found in documents. An important result of the research is an indicator of appeals to restrictions in the work of journalists. Many restrictions in journalistic activities are linked to the need to be accountable to the audience.
