Characteristic features of Swedish perception of A. Platonov’s story “The Foundation Pit”, translated into Swedish by K. E. Lindsten in 2007 under the name “Grundgropen”, are considered. The purpose of the article is to analyze Swedish, national, scientific, and publicistic sourcess, which analyze the story from positions of absurdity. The position of absurdity is approached as a category of poetry and as a philosophical problem of human life judgment. Receptive, descriptive, and comparative-historical methods were used to reveal the subject of the story. According to the perception of Swedish researchers, the category of absurdity, in this particular story, reveals itself through the language and its figurative system, through the worldview of both the story’s protagonists and the writer himself. Condensing to the point of absurdity events of the modern historical reality, the artist-philosopher tries to penetrate deeper into the tissue of contemporary history, into the drama of self-determination, into the ontological problems of relationships between a person and the world.
