Case study and role play as innovative technologies for the implementation of the competence-based education approach

The article presents and analyzes the results of a survey of second- and third-year students of the State University of Management aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of innovative case study and role play educational technologies in the process of learning foreign (English) language. The survey demonstrated a high level of students’ interest in learning foreign (English) language on the basis of case study and role play. In the course of the research, the key features of thinking of bachelors, solving cases and participating in role plays, were identified alongside with the principles of collecting and processing information necessary to formulate answers to specific practice-oriented questions and the subject area of application of knowledge acquired during training through the use of innovative educational technologies. The article analyzes the relationship between innovative case study and role play educational technologies, the competence-based approach to teaching foreign (English) language and the project method. The authors identified and described the main tasks facing the developers of case studies and role plays. The research results reflect the realities of educational process carried out at the university and allow to make conclusions about possible ways of improving practice-oriented bachelor training.
