Problem statement. The study of the language picture of the world proceeds through the reconstruction of individual fragments, which help to understand its general structure and interrelations. The linguistic image of China is one of those fragments in the media picture of the world - a version of the language picture of the world. It is reflected in media texts: Russian-Chinese relations are regularly and massively discussed on the pages of modern periodicals. The purpose of the analysis is to find and generalize the semantic aspects that determine the formation of the media image of China. Review of scientific literature on the problem. The content and structure of the language picture of the world, the principles and methods of its reconstruction, its definitions have taken their place in the space of linguistic discussion. All these problems are discussed in the text of the article. Methodology (materials and methods). The main method of analysis in this case is the semantic analysis of discourse, and the texts for the observations are Russian newspapers included in the base of the National Corpus of Russian language (http://ruscorpora.ru) selected by the search engine for the keyword of China. Research results. As a result, in the media picture of the world formed by Russian media, China is defined as the subject: 1) quickly, comprehensively, actively and intensively acting in the cultural, economic or foreign policy spheres; 2) having stable links primarily with Russia (partnership and cooperation relations) and the United States (rivalry relations); 3) predominantly positively qualified in a variety of language forms (predicates, evaluative adjectives, proposition of characterization, modus position). Conclusions. Thus, the formation of the media image of China occurs taking into consideration three aspects: semantic sphere, semantic roles and "participants"; and, finally, linguistic assessment. The author’s contribution to the development of the outlined problem is presented in "Research results" and "Conclusions" sections.
