The article is devoted to the analysis of the territorial organization of classified accommodation facilities in the Russian Federation in connection with application of the mandatory classification of hotels. We study the distribution of collective accommodation facilities in the federal districts and regions of the country in quantitative and qualitative (by category) aspects. As a result, the leading role of Krasnodar Krai in this rating has been identified and justified. The results of studying the territorial distribution of classified accommodation facilities over the region emphasize the uneven distribution, and on the other hand, the connection with the tourist specialization of municipalities and the degree of the region’s participation in servicing tourist flows. Tourist centers of the Black Sea coast and the capital of the region, Krasnodar, have special position, because the number of "hotels with stars” is maximum; moreover, 45star hotels are located also there. The authors emphasize the effectiveness of the measures taken by local authorities to develop new types of tourism in the Krasnodar region in order to redistribute tourist flows and reduce the recreational load on coastal recreation systems: the hotel industry of the mountain foothill regions is developing dynamically.
