The article deals with the problem of cognitive interpretation of the lexeme goodness in the Russian and Chinese languacultures. It is shown, that the notion of goodness is defined as a basic-level concept of the moral component in the Chinese and Russian linguistic worldviews, that the ethical concept of goodness is a prototype (a typical, exemplary term) in the word goodness, that in the Russian and Chinese languages the lexeme goodness can mean not only “good behavior” that benefits oneself and other people, but it also has the meaning “to give consent to something / approve something”, that the concept of taking good advice is metaphorically represented as going down the stream, and that the ethical concept of goodness can be metaphorically considered as a mountain. In conclusion, we can say that the main semantic prototypical content of the word goodness in general in the Russian and Chinese languages coincides, which indicates the universality of goodness in human civilization.
