The paper deals with the aspects of civic identity of Crimean residents. The author argues that the Crimeans are characterized by a high level of Soviet, Russian, and regional identity. Their civic identity is implemented through the cognition, values, meanings and actions of a person. The study examines the cognitive component of civic identity, i.e. Crimean residents’ perceptions of their citizenship. Based on the research results, the author identifies the main areas for improvement of civic identity in the Republic of Crimea: state symbols, national historical symbols and archetypes, active citizenship, formal belonging to the state, and moral qualities. The research identifies the prevailing focus on state and national historical symbols, low formalization of attitude to the motherland, and high moral potential of the Crimeans in the structure of their civic identity.
