Theoretical analysis of similarities and differences in understanding of competence and competency

In this article the author describes existing points of view to the definition of terms "competence" and "competency". The problem is indicated in the ambiguous understanding of these terms. The author tried to determine the genesis of two similar and often identified concepts of competence and competency. In the course of the analysis of these definitions, similarities are established between them, expressed in the inclusion of knowledge, skills and skills in both these concepts, but not determined solely by their totality. The article notes the obviousness of their proximity and mutual conditioning, emphasis is placed on the fact that both concepts are described as important determinants of activity. At the same time, the author points out the existing differences between competence and competency. As a result of the analysis, the author gives a rationale for these concepts as categories of activity.
