The article is devoted to the analysis of the interaction between the family and education in the process of upbringing a competent communicative individuality - the main asset of developing information society. The article highlights the fact that Russia is now undergoing a complicated and multidimensional process of radical changes in its sociocultural nature which affect all spheres of life and all social institutions. They have to face all mistakes and negative consequences of changes in the society. In this connection it is the family that becomes the main firm basis responsible for reproduction, safety and transfer of basic values to younger generations. The author of the article pays attention to dialectics of inter-generational relationships in a family which provides for harmonization and safety of cultural traditions in modern Russia. In questions of upbringing the family has been always closely connected with the social institution of education. The main problems of this interaction are also discussed in the article.
