A comprehensive radiological examination after reconstructive-plastic operations in patients with breast cancer

Бесплатный доступ

Aim of the study was to present normal mammographic and ultrasonographic findings in various types of breast reconstruction after mastectomy. Current breast reconstruction techniques are diverse and may involve the use of an autologous tissue flap (latissimus dorsi, rectus abdominis myocutaneous flaps are the most commonly used), a tissue expanders and prosthesis. The study involved 90 patients who underwent breast reconstruction on the basis of the State Organization "Russian Scientific Center of Roentgen Radiology" (RNCRR) of Russian Ministry of Health in the period 2012-2016. There is as yet no established consensus about the optimal methods for patient follow-up after mastectomy and breast reconstruction. Mammography and ultrasound provide excellent visualisation of normal and pathologic findings in reconstructed breasts. For a better follow-up with these patients, breast radiologists should be familiar with the described surgical techniques as well as with the normal and abnormal imaging features following breast reconstruction.
