The conception of the Kuban historical and cultural atlas as an integral part of the program for studying the cultural heritage of the peoples of the North Caucasus

The article substantiates the need for the creation of the Kuban Historical and Cultural Atlas, in the introductory part of which it is necessary to provide general information about the region. The structural basis of the atlas will be the maps reconstructing the history from ancient times to the present, dedicated to the history of material and spiritual culture of peoples, separately for each ethnic and subethnic group (Russians, Ukrainians, Kuban Cossacks, Adygeans, Armenians, Nogais, Byelorussians, Czechs, Poles, Assyrians and others). The last part should contain maps for certain regions and cities of the Krasnodar Region and the Republic of Adygea which will be of special value for local lore because they will concentrate in themselves as much detailed information on objects of historical and cultural significance at the local level. To create the atlas, a coordination center is needed, which may be the Southern Branch of the Institute of Heritage.
