National pedagogy and its development in the Republic of Abkhazia

The article focuses on the summarized review of the concept “national pedagogy” and the term “ethno-pedagogy”. Some judgments and interpretations of the concept are given from the point of view of outstanding scientists of the CIS countries and regions of Russia and teachers, psychologists, ethnologists and historians of the North Caucasus and Abkhazia. According to the author, the spiritual wealth of Abkhazians reflected in their pedagogies offers models for comprehensive and harmonious development of younger generation; therefore the relevance of this research is governed by the necessity of truthful and unbiased exposition of historical and pedagogical processes and didactic experience of the people of Abkhazia which can be used for the improvement of the education system in the republic. The article traces the development of centuries-old folk upbringing of Abkhazians into the national pedagogy - the science, which is actively studied. The author specifies the periods of its historical formation in the republic, what is innovative in comparison with other researches, provides a basis for further studies of education methods of Abkhazian national pedagogy and implementation of these methods in modern education.
