The concept of project-based learning based on the engineering case method and its practical implementation

The article presents a concept of project-based learning grounded in the method of engineering case studies, developed by the authors in response to the growing demand for modern and effective approaches in engineering education. Given the current need for engineering workforce development, as well as for career guidance of school and university students, the project-based approach is regaining popularity. However, successful implementations of this method in educational practice remain relatively rare. The proposed concept builds on the authors’ extensive experience in executing engineering and educational projects and integrates theoretical training with hands-on practical activities. The article outlines the key conceptual principles that distinguish the authors’ approach to the design and implementation of engineering case studies. Particular attention is given to case studies developed by the authors in the field of space technologies, which clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach – specifically, the creation of a preliminary design for a super heavy-lift launch vehicle for a lunar mission and a conceptual system of air launch using a stratospheric balloon platform for medium-class rockets.
