The article examines the views of M. Klein and some of her followers on the phenomenon of envy. The role of envy in the formation of transfer-counter-transfer reactions and the problem of its interpretation is discussed. In addition, the issue of a critical assessment of some provisions of M. Klein’s theory by various researchers will be raised.
