Conceptual and methodological approach to eliminating accumulated environmental damage in the Arctic

Free access

Significant amounts of accumulated environmental damage in the Arctic pose a serious challenge to the sustainable development of the northern territories. The study offers recommendations for improving the organizational and methodological basis of the management system for the elimination of environmental damage. The limitations of the current concept have been identified, the main of which is the excessive centralization of pollution detection and elimination processes at the level of regional authorities. It is proved that the introduction of an integrated management model based on combining the resources and competencies of government agencies and non-governmental organizations can be an important factor in improving the efficiency of clean-up processes. The concept of a territorial and logistical approach to the organization of work on the collection and removal of objects of accumulated environmental damage in the Arctic regions is proposed. Further prospects of the study are related to the assessment of the economic effectiveness of the proposed measures.
