Conspirociology in the populist rhetoric of the elites: communication value

This article raises the question of why the appeal of political elites to conspiracy discourse and their use of appropriate images and meanings in populist rhetoric are strategically effective for communicating with the population and retaining power. Describing the communication value of the exploitation of conspiracy fears by political leaders, the author demonstrates how this exploitation serves to mask permanent social conflict.
