The article contains the pedagogical views of the founder of Russian scientific pedagogy, the "teacher of Russian teachers" and "a truly national educator" Konstantin Dmitrievich Ushinsky (1824-1870) on the organization and activities of Sunday schools. An analysis of his articles "Sunday Schools", "From a Report on a Business Trip Abroad", "On the Moral Element in Education" and others made it possible to identify an indispensable condition for the "good organization of a Sunday school". Having revealed Ushinsky's pedagogical views on target settings, the author introduces a list of subjects recommended for Sunday school. Among them, a special place belongs to the Law of God. At the same time, the entire educational process should be built on the positions of Orthodoxy. The article contains the scientist's ideas on the issue of teaching. In particular, it is indicated that Ushinsky emphasizes the importance of special pedagogical training, without which educational activity is impossible, as well as the importance of women's work in Sunday school. The article draws attention to the question that the scientist pondered about why "pedagogy still thinks more about how to teach than about what to study for...". The author, pointing to Ushinsky's deep religiosity, sees his answer in the field of Christian pedagogy. The author's position is in solidarity with the great educator's opinion about the significant moral influence of Sunday school on students. Based on the opinion of Konstantin Dmitrievich Ushinsky, the article concludes that Sunday schools are a "wonderful and gratifying phenomenon", and its support from the church, state and society will open "a calming and bright future before our eyes".
