The relevance of the topic of the constitutional foundations of local self-government is increasing significantly, due to the fact that at present the state authorities are under enormous pressure and therefore local governments are called upon not only to ease the burden of state bodies, but also to increase the level of legal culture of citizens. In democratic states, the organization and exercise of power is based on the principle of separation of powers, which is combined with the principle of local self-government. It is the principle of local self-government that provides the most suitable and convenient system of expression and ensuring the interests of the population in the field. In this article we will analyze how the principle of local self-government works, what issues local self-government decides and how it interacts with state authorities, because a misunderstanding of the essence of local self-government leads to the fact that the state is trying to shift responsibility for certain state powers to residents of municipalities.
