Contamination: the nature of the phenomenon and approaches to its study

The contamination phenomenon is explored from the point of view of Russian and foreign linguistic traditions as the principle for interaction of language units realized at different levels. A broad and narrow definitions of contamination are considered. Special attention is paid to the cognitive modelling of the process of integration of language units into a contaminated word, and to the specific nature of agglutination process.
