Against the background of the ongoing strengthening of cooperation with the ASEAN countries and the success of the program of foreign students in higher education in Russia, the problem of adaptation of students from far abroad looks the most urgent. Despite the strengthening of international relations, the problem of students' accommodation and assimilation into the micro-environment of Russian higher education remains unchanged: as before, students face an alien socio-cultural environment, which affects the quality of the curriculum comprehension. In this paper the adaptation process of international students is discussed in detail, the stages of adaptation and problems which students face at each stage are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the factors influencing the delay of students' integration into the society. The problems of motivational and background characteristics of students in the process of adaptation are considered. Based on the analysis of the totality of factors causing delay in the adaptation process, methodological techniques that allow correcting motivational level of international students are offered. Particular attention is paid to the role of the teacher on the integration path of a foreign student. Possible styles of pedagogical communication with students for successful correction of motivational background of adaptive process are considered.
