Indirect menacing-speech-act in political discourse in English

Бесплатный доступ

A menacing-speech-act is a tactical means of manipulating opponents in the political discourse in order to gain power. The division of menaces into direct and indirect speech acts depending upon the degree of illocutionary force explication proves the impossibility of their performative use. At the same time the degree of their indirectness may vary according to the way the pragmatic meaning of the utterance is defined: either through the lexical composition, or with the help of the context or extra linguistic knowledge.
