The paper discusses the history of the foundation and activity of Krasnoyarsk Teacher's Institute. The paper also proves that it belonged to the 3rd category of universities in the system of higher school of Imperial Russia. Besides, it justifies why the history of KSPU named after V.P. Astafiev should be reasonably highlighted starting from the pre-revolutionary year of 1916.
