The article is a review of the monograph by the Candidate of Theology, Associate professor of the Theology Department at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy A. V. Markidonov Theology and Culture, which was published in 2022 by the SPbTA Publishing House as part of the book series Theology: history and modernity. It is shown that the construction of the fundamental work under consideration, which contains the author’s articles on Russian and Byzantine culture previously published in scientific publications, is distinguished by the strict unity of the basic ideological, apologetic and cultural principles. The basis of this harmony is a clearly expressed apology for Orthodox culture and the identification of the fundamental role of Orthodox theology in the process of creation and understanding of the Eastern Christian cultural tradition.
