The article considers creative industries as a segment of the economy developing according to a special law of unity of creativity, mass production and mass consumption in the field of culture. The formation and development of creative industries can be considered one of the results of modernization processes in Russian culture. This, according to the author, dictates the need to study the compatibility of creative industries with the Russian type of culture and its value-semantic content. The article gives a critical assessment of the opinions of researchers who unjustifiably emphasize the “failure” of cultural dynamics in the Russian model of creative industries, inconsistency of stages, violation of their continuity and delay. The author suggests an alternative conclusion that creative industries cannot be represented as part of the cultural missionary work of Western civilization and the “borrowed” format of modernization, because the institutionalization of the domestic version of the creative sector of the economy, integrated into the overall modernization process, occurs on value- semantic grounds that do not destroy the continuity of Russian culture with tradition. This actualizes the importance of creative industries as an instrument of state cultural policy designed to strengthen Russian identity and preserve the specifics of the Russian cultural space.
