Peasant painting with the Yermak depiction from the Yenisei province: on the relation between visual and verbal forms of folklore

In the article the comparison of the Yermak depiction considered by peasant painting from the Yenisei province (the beginning of the XX century) with the image of this historical figure in the later stages of Russian song and epic tradition is attempted. According to the author, a trend toward empowering the Cossack Ataman by features of an epic hero, clearly manifested in the historical songs and epics, can be found not only in verbal, but also in visual forms of folklore. Proof of this are features of an epic hero identified in the Yermak depiction considered by peasant painting from the Yenisei province.
