В основе теории ощущения Аристотеля лежит принцип, согласно которому ощущающее есть в возможности то, чем ощущаемое является в действительности. При внимательном рассмотрении это утверждение оказывается не чем иным, как модернизацией древнего правила «подобное познается подобным», которого придерживалось большинство ранних греческих философов, включая Эмпедокла и Платона. В настоящей статье мы пытаемся показать, почему Аристотель подвергает этот принцип критике, и каким образом ему удается «спасти» его для собственной теории ощущении с помощью учения о возможности и действительности. Статья написана в виде построчного комментария к фрагменту из трактата О душе II 5 416b 32-417a 20, где Аристотель уличает теории предшествующих философов в непоследовательности и противоречии; показывает, какие затруднения влечет за собой принцип познания подобного подобным и предлагает решение указанных затруднений путем различения двух смыслов ощущающего и ощущаемого.
