Criticism of suicide prevention in antipsychiatry

For T. Szasz the interaction of psychiatrist and suicider are associated, primarily, with deprivation of rights and freedoms from the latter. The manifestation of this interaction is the practices of prevention and intervention of suicide, which is the deprivation of rights and prevention of possible behavior, while its effectiveness remains doubtful. T. Szasz builds its critique with the aim to show that the situation in which suicider is seen as the carrier of mental disorder and thus taken to the mental institution, on the one hand, is limiting the scope of individual freedoms, on the other hand, allows to avoid responsibility, shifting it either in the impersonal mechanisms of the disease, or the psychiatrist. In response to this, T. Szasz sets forth the specific right - the right to be let alone, thus claiming the need to limit the scope of individual freedom before the state intervention (or any other entity with authority), even in such fatal cases as a suicide...
