Krusenstern and the beginning of Malay studies in Russia

The article is devoted to the Malay manuscript, which was commissioned by I.F. Krusenstern during his stay in Malacca and in 1799 donated to the Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg. This manuscript is a copy of a famous medieval Malay literary work called «Sulalat u’s-Salatin». The author describes the history of the acquisition of the manuscript, characterizes its features and content, and also outlines the historical and cultural significance and artistic influence of «Sulalat u’s-Salatin».
