Traditional Chinese painting is a distinctive aesthetic system, characterized by its integrity and completeness in reflecting the characteristics of the Chinese people's world view. The works of art from the Celestial Empire have a unique artistic style and their own system of aesthetic appreciation of the world around them. The article examines the value of traditional painting in Chinese culture in terms of its significance for the country. It is emphasized that the preservation of authentic features of the visual arts is essential to ensure the protection of artistic and cultural values in Chinese painting from alien influences. The problem of borrowing elements of Western artistic culture and incorporating them into modern Chinese paintings, which negates the value and creative potential of traditional Chinese visual culture, is argued. Consequently, the development of contemporary Chinese society should be accompanied not only by the appropriation of the world's achievements in the arts, but also by the preservation of its national originality. The novelty of the research is the refraction of a retrospective view of the specificity of traditional painting in China through the prism of modernity, an assessment of the importance of preserving the identity of national art in the face of aggressive external influences.
