Cultural and philosophical background of postmodernism

This article reveals the formation of postmodernism from the position of culturology. This topic is timely, as viewing postmodernism as a phenomenon that goes beyond tradition, many theorists of postmodernism point out not only its contrast with all previous traditions, but also the novelty of postmodern mindset and its cultural codes Regarding the formation of postmodernism, we are facing variety of parallels that bind postmodernism with scientific and philosophical schools of thought of the past. Postmodernism is found to be related to a multitude of relativistic philosophical systems of both ancient philosophy and that of the XX century, with traces of similarities found not only in the general methodology, but also in the cultural significance of these systems. The above makes the subject of this article, which will focus on the cultural and gnoseological precursors of postmodernism.
