Cultural practices as a factor in the revival of single-industry towns: foreign experience

Бесплатный доступ

The article is devoted to the analysis of successful foreign experience in solving socio-economic problems of a single-industry city due to the development of the cultural sphere in Wolfsburg, Germany. In the 1990s, due to economic dependence on the city-forming enterprise - the “Volkswagen” plant - the city was characterized by high unemployment and low quality of life. The city administration and “Volkswagen” established a public-private partnership to coordinate the development of the region, with the concept of “World of impressions” as a priority. The impetus for its implementation was given by the company “Volkswagen”, which opened in 2000 the theme park “Autostadt”, which has become one of the most popular attractions in Germany thanks to an innovative model of car distribution. The opening of “Autostadt” created jobs, expanded the opportunities of the population to meet leisure needs, gave an impetus to the development of tourism. The development of modern cultural practices has become a factor in the development of various forms of entrepreneurial activity and investment flows and, in general, has made it possible to turn an ordinary industrial city into a “magnet” for tourists, a center of culture and innovation.
