The article examines the phenomenon of “cultural shock” experienced by foreign students in the professional environment of a medical university, as well as the difficulties faced by students during their first years of study. “Cultural shock” is presented not as a barrier to development, but as a necessary stage and challenge, through overcoming which the process of adaptation begins. Conclusion dwells upon the fact that the adaptation of foreign students in a Russian university is a complex process that requires an integrated approach and a systematic adaptation program. Successful adaptation necessitates creating conditions that take into account cultural, national, ethnic, and racial (religious) differences. The author presents the results of a study conducted at Volgograd State Medical University among foreign students.
