Th e purpose of the article is to study the relationship between “technocentric” and culture oriented approaches to human development: methodological principles, means and results. Th e context of the reassessment is the fragmentation of unipolar globalism and the prospects for a transition to new models of international scientifi c cooperation. Methods of comparative analysis and dialectical logic are applied. Th e partiality, limited results of hightech means of human enhancement, as well as the risks of side eff ects and negative socio cultural consequences, are revealed. Conclusions are drawn about such advantages of culturally oriented means of seldevelopment of the individual as comprehensiveness, harmony and integrity of the development of the abilities of the individual, his social ties and society as a whole.
