Lexical and semantic assimilation of the Netherlands loanwords of the thematic group ‘food and drink’ in the English language

The article deals with the adaptation of the loanwords from the Netherlands semantic group ‘Food and Drink’ (such words, as cookie, noodle, cruller, etc.) to the lexical system of the English language. There is revealed the degree of the assimilation of the defined lexical units on the basis of the comparative analysis of their origin meaning in the donor language and the possible modifications of the meaning (or their absence) in the target language.
