Language material reflects national specificity of worldview. Studying foreign vocabulary often comes to looking for words with equivalent meaning. However such an approach is significantly insufficient, as it does it not allow to comprehend the precise meaning of the words, making an illusion of understanding. Using Russian and Italian entomological vocabulary, this article analyses the marking of figurative sense in bilingual dictionaries and the ways to convey it by means of another language. The article also examines the difficulties that can occur, if a bilingual dictionary is used while translating metaphorical and emotive words with national specificity. The examination is two-stage, initially describing the structure elements of a dictionary entry and then the ways of translating metaphorical semantics. Analyzing entomological lexemes, we have revealed some general tendencies of semantization of their figurative meanings and the methods of rendering metaphors into another language.
