Personal helplessness as a factor in victimization of an actor

The study reviews personal helplessness as a key factor in victimization of an actor. The phenomenon of helplessness is analyzed from the perspective of the subjective existential approach that implies the consideration of its existential reasons. The research examines the indicators of helplessness such as indifference, inactivity, depressiveness, fear of difficulties and challenges in conjunction with conformism and pessimistic style of attribution impeding the creative self-fulfillment. The paper shows the empirical findings. The sample included Russian young people (N = 70). Respondents were offered to complete the questionnaires revealing their personal helplessness (the original test), time perspective, subject-object relations, basic beliefs of the personality and hardiness test. The authors prove that high helplessness, negative time perspective, failure of personal narrative, unsuccessful creative self-fulfillment, low hardiness, loss of influence on daily events make the personality passive and contribute to victimization of an actor.
