Learner-centred approach in English language teaching to students of non-linguistic specialities

This article describes learner-centred approach as one of the main tendencies in modern education. Learning process based on individual, social and cultural traits of students, their interests and emotional states contributes to the development of personality, motivation and professional qualities. The results of the research have been obtained by observation, experiment and discussion. The main principles of learner-centred approach in the English language teaching have been characterized and the effectiveness of different types of academic activities in the development of communication skills have been analysed. The advantages of learner-centred approach in the foreign language teaching at the university have been identified and the different types of academic activities contributing to the development of professional foreign language competence of the students have been characterized.
