The article deals with the liminal fable model of the story “The Fenstanton Witch” by M.R. James including the phase of isolating (the characteristics of the main characters Nikolas Hardman and Steven Asha as outsiders and anchorets), the phase of partnership (the acquisition of the new experience by the characters and the tests of the improper living behaviour), the liminal phase of trial of death coming to the symbolic death of both characters and the final phase of the characters’ transformation in new living quality that occurs at the external (physical) and internal (psychological) levels.
