The work analyses scientific and literary works written at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, which are devoted to the topic of child speech reflected in Chukovsky’s collection of articles “Malenkiye Deti” (“Little Children”). In this context the study considers the book as a preliminary to “From Two to Five”. The study suggests that this linguistic concept of childhood, which was rather popular in 1920s, had influenced Chukovsky’s ideas.
