Linguistic principle of contrast as a basis to render comic sense in Russian and American anecdotes

The article deals with the concept of rendering comic sense in Russian and American anecdotes by means of such linguistic principle as contrast. The author of the article analyzes the linguistic principle of contrast based on the connection of language units filling two-frame slot structures. Correlation among units is based either on similarity of attributes or functions of subject and object in comic situations.
