The article deals with assessing the role of linguistic and cultural studies in the formation of cognitive interest in learning a foreign language at a technical higher education institution. Such forms of linguistic and cultural studies as listening and reading, educational films, preparation of abstracts and presentations, reports and articles on regional geographic topics are defined. The conclusion on the significant role of linguistic and cultural studies in the formation of cognitive interest in learning a foreign language at a technical higher education institution is made.
