Lossky in the context of the reception of the philosophical and theological paradigm of unity: towards the formulation of the problem

The article makes preliminary remarks regarding an important aspect in the legacy of V. N. Lossky. This aspect has not yet become the subject of special research. The author believes that V. N. Lossky perceived his work, first of all, as a response of Orthodox theology to the philosophical challenges of the twentieth century. Among these challenges are the interpretations of unresolved issues of ecclesiology, the philosophy of personalism and the philosophy of unity, which received its theological form in the teaching of Sophia by Archpriest. S. Bulgakov. The article draws attention to the deep internal connection of the corresponding areas of research by V. N. Lossky and their concentration around the foundations on which the metaphysics of unity is built. According to the author, V. N. Lossky carried out the reception of this metaphysics and presented his system, in which, on the one hand, he tried to proceed entirely from the evidence of the church patristic worldview and theology, and on the other hand, he showed his personal convictions that were formed in him under the influence of polemics with the teachings of Archpriest. S. Bulgakov.
