«Lunyu»: on the issue of the title origin

The article sheds light on the problem of the origin and meaning of the title of Confucius’ «Analects». The author provides a brief etymological and textual analysis of the characters constituting the title and reconstructs the historical context in which the text appeared. Basing on the research the author concludes that the most adequate translation of «Lunyu» title is «Edited/selected conversations».
