The goal of our study was the evaluation of MRI and CT criteria for involvement of different anatomical structures during assessment of bone tumors. Standardization of the research protocol for image analysis from both modalities allowed tumor evolutions to be less dependent on the operator experience. 88 patients with original bone tumors were examined, out of them 53 patients had a follow up surgery. Consequently, the tumor expansion, involvement of muscles, nerves and blood vessels from radiologic evaluations were compared with the multiple results of surgery. Advantages of each method in these assessments are discussed. The findings of this study will allow radiologists to be more authentic in their evaluations and help surgeons in their planning of surgical procedures to prevent excessive surgery.
