The purpose of the study was to assess the potential of 99mTc-MIBI mammoscintigraphy in breast cancer detection. A total of 70 patients with breast cancer were examined. The SPECT mammoscintigraphy showed higher sensitivity rate in detection of both the primary tumor and regional metastases than the planar scintigraphy (95,7% and 91,1% versus 45,7% and 44,1%, respectively). Indexes - tumor to background ratio (T/B) and retention index (RI) appeared to be the most informative in prognostic evaluation of neoadjuvant chemotherapy effect. Patients with positive response to chemotherapy had lower pre-treatment parameters of T/B and RI (T/B: 33,5±1,7, p=0,0005; RI: 0,1±0.3, p=0,04). Patients with insignificant response to chemotherapy had higher pre-treatment T/B and RI parameters (7,6±4,01 and 0,3±0,2, respectively). The results obtained indicate that SPECT has higher diagnostic significance than planar mammoscintigraphy in breast cancer detection and can be used for assessing and predicting response to chemotherapy.
